Troubleshooting
The logs and where they are, and fixes for: a panel that will not open, sign-in and lock-outs, the licence, accounts, DNS, SSL and mail, services and cron, plugins and updates.
Start with the logs. Then find the symptom below.
Where the logs are
| Log | What is in it |
|---|---|
/var/log/aiohpanel-install.log | Everything install.sh did. |
data/logs/php-errors.log | PHP warnings and fatal errors of the panel (display_errors is off, so they never reach the page). |
data/logs/errors.log | A page that threw an error: the face, the page and the line. The page shows Something went wrong on this page. |
data/logs/cron.log | A cron job that failed. |
data/logs/plugins.log | A plugin that failed to load or start. |
data/logs/upgrade.log | Each step of an update. |
The activity log (table ap_activity_log) | Who did what: sign-ins, restarts, changes, kept for 90 days. |
On a server data/ is /usr/local/aiohpanel/data/. The nginx log for the panel ports is in /var/log/nginx/.
I cannot open the panel
- Nothing on port 2087. Check the service and the firewall:
systemctl status nginx, nginx -t, thenss -ltnp | grep 208. A cloud provider may have its own firewall; open 2082, 2083, 2086, 2087, 2095 and 2096 there too. - The browser warns about the certificate. Expected until Auto SSL issues one for the hostname. Accept it once.
- 502 Bad Gateway. PHP-FPM is down:
systemctl restart php8.3-fpm(the unit name follows your PHP version), and look atdata/logs/php-errors.log. - 404 for everything on a demo host. The rewrite rules are not running. Enable
mod_rewriteandAllowOverride Allfor the folder, or usephp -S. See Trying it anywhere. - The wizard starts again.
config.phporinstalled.lockis missing from the folder; an update replaced them by mistake or the folder is not writable.
Signing in
- Wrong password, then nothing works. After five failed sign-ins from one address the brute force protection blocks it for 15 minutes. Wait, or on the server run
aiohpanel root:passwd NEWPASS, and clear the block under Security Center → Brute Force Protection. - I lost my two-factor device. On the server:
mysql aiohpanel -e "UPDATE ap_admins SET twofa_on=0 WHERE username='root'"and sign in with the password. Set it up again at once. - The hosting panel says the account is suspended. Unsuspend it under Account Functions → Manage Account Suspension; check bandwidth limits if the cause was Bandwidth limit exceeded.
- A link answers 403. The address carries a security token of an old session. Open the panel's home address again.
Licence
- Every page sends me to Licence. The state is not Active or Grace. Read the message on that page. See The licence key.
- Could not reach the License Center. The server needs outgoing HTTPS to license.faruk.bd. Test:
curl -I https://license.faruk.bd. Fix DNS, the firewall or the CA certificates. - Registered to another server. The hostname changed. Press Check now; if it still fails, change the hostname on the licence at license.faruk.bd.
- A premium plugin refuses to switch on. Its addon is not on the licence. Buy it or use a package that includes it, then Check now.
Accounts
- Create a New Account fails. The message says why: the user name or domain exists, the password is too weak, or Your licence allows N accounts.
- A site shows the default page or another site. The domain's DNS does not point at the server, or the account's virtual host was not written. Restart Apache from Restart Services and check the document root under Domains.
- Quota or inode full. Show Accounts Over Quota lists them; raise the package or clean the home.
DNS, SSL and mail
- A domain does not resolve. The registrar must list your nameservers, and those names need A records at the registrar. Test with
dig NS example.com. Check Service Status: BIND must be running. - Auto SSL fails. Let's Encrypt must reach the domain over HTTP on port 80. See the result line on Manage Auto SSL; fix the A record and press Run all.
- Mail does not arrive. Use Email → Mail Troubleshooter on the address. Then Mail Queue Manager for stuck messages, Service Status for Postfix and Dovecot, and ports 25, 465, 587, 993. Your server's IP needs a reverse DNS (PTR) record for its hostname, set by your provider.
- Mail goes to spam. Enable DKIM/SPF Globally, then check Email Deliverability in the hosting panel.
Services and cron
- The Home page says the cron never ran. Run
aiohpanel cron --forceand read the output; checksystemctl status aiohpanel-cron.timer. See The panel cron. - A service keeps going down. Service Manager restarts monitored ones, but read why it stops:
journalctl -u <service>. Out of memory is the usual cause. - Backups do not run. Backup Configuration must be on, the cron must run, and the backup folder needs space.
Plugins and themes
- A plugin does not show. It must be switched on in Manage Plugins and, if premium, covered by the licence. See
data/logs/plugins.log. - After a theme change the page is plain. The theme's
assets/folder is missing, or its zip was extracted one folder too deep.theme.jsonmust be at the top or one folder down.
Updates
- FAILED lines from db_update. Fix the reason shown on the line and run
aiohpanel db:updateagain. Every step runs once only. - A file could not be written. The panel user cannot write that file;
chown -R aiohpanel:aiohpanel /usr/local/aiohpanel, then update again.
Still stuck
Write down the page, the exact message, the panel version (aiohpanel version) and the last lines of data/logs/php-errors.log and errors.log, then open a ticket from your account at license.faruk.bd or write to the support address on the Licence page.
